Market Friday meets Craiglist

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see the different markets and cultures of our friends here on steemit. I have been pleasured by all of you, as you send in the most wonderful posts. Going places, doing things, buying merchandise. I have been surprised by many, not being familiar with the culture and I must say that it has been such an educational experience for me in so many ways and I hope for you also. This week, I will be doing an unusual market listing toys on Craiglist, selling rather than buying.

Are you ready to see what we can sell? A reverse #MarketFriday of sorts.

This was such a wonderful part of us girls in the house, PollyPockets. Does anyone remember the days of this less than an inch high doll? Each one came with their own house, which usually transformed into something cool. A castle, a regular house or even a Fairy Light Wonderland. Oh, yes! They were crazy days of the '90s! Polly Pocket ruled! Along with Beanie Babies, Furby and the Easy-Bake Oven. I cannot even tell you how many brownies I made in it.

While they may be miniature, those toys can now fetch big bucks online. Not every old Polly Pocket toy is valuable, but certain sets can sell for hundreds of dollars on eBay and other sites. Follow me! We'll meander through the toy chest a bit!

image.png

I was looking up the prices that I needed to ask and I almost had heart failure. I found the above set on eBay "Lot of 7 VINTAGE Bluebird Polly Pocket Sets Excellent Condition, Completed Sets" Hello? Obviously, I needed to look up these little darlings a little closer.

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. It helps you and me to have them in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you so much for joining us!! ❤

Barbie dolls were invented by Ruth Handler, who was the co-founder of Mattel toy company. She was inspired to create an adult doll after she watched her daughter playing with paper dolls. She modeled Barbie after Bild Lillie, a German doll that she purchased the rights to. She even bought the rights to the German-made doll Bild Lilli and modeled her version after the figure. Barbie was introduced to the public at the New York Toy Fair in 1959.

Before Barbie, the only dolls they sold on the market were baby dolls, but Barbie was much different. They were created to grant young girls choices for life, career and otherwise. They were quickly fast-tracked to becoming the best-selling dolls of all time. To date, Barbie has had over one billion sales since her birth. As an aside, I looked up the prices that Barbies were selling at and they were all over the board. From $10.00 to $1,000.00 This made it extremely hard to put a price on it. I will have to research some more before I post them. Although I gave away two to the neighbor's young girls who were fawning over them. The only thing they really needed was another little girl to love them

So many ball gowns for Barbie and her friends! There were literally dozens and each and every one was handmade by a seamstress. Careful attention to detail was made. I can remember the bright eyes and the smiles, just thinking about playing with them, getting all dressed up for Ken, her male doll counterpart. Oh, yes! Life was good for Barbie!

STOP!! BRAIN TEASER AHEAD!!

Question: What word looks the same backward, or even upside down?

source

Answer:The word "swims."
SWIMS

toys 3.jpg

Barbie has all sorts of accessories. I am not even sure how she collected all of these! A scooter, part of the stall for her pony and even an exercise bike! Barbie needs to keep in shape! Below is a laundromat and there is a horse stall complete with a horse and all the tools to keep him happy, a full gym, a full kitchen and furniture for the dream house, which is not shown, but, saftely taken apart and in its box. So tell me, tell me, tell me true? Where did Barbie get all that time to go shopping?

20180527_200607.jpg

I almost forgot about the littlest pet shop. Kenner originally introduced The Littlest Pet Shop toys in the 90s, I believe it was 1992. It was made into an animated cartoon several years later and then disappeared. Hasbro resurrected it in 2005 and it was made into an animated series again in 2012-2016. There is such a mixed bag of prices on what you can get for these, but, for sure, it was much more than you paid, especially for the older ones.

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable

A flower. There must always be a flower to color my world. I want to thank @Kalemandra or her everyday use of the #colorchallenge.

My Little Pony is a toy line and media franchise that was created by American Toy Company Hasbro. Itis another story of them being revived and the television series just aired its last episode in April 2019.

That's it! All you have to do is figure out how much you are willing to part with your toy. If I am not going to use it, I don't need it. Honest. For the most part, if it doesn't sell in a few days, It will be doing hard time at Salvation Army or Goodwill. It doesn't really matter. The other question will be, how can I verify these prices. you cannot. I want to thank you for stopping by and chatting. Have a great weekend.

And just like that, my shopping is done. Until next time! I hope you had fun and maybe next time, we will get a few more plants to fill in the spaces. As always, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit #MarketFriday!! Have a most fabulous day! The filling out of the craigslist is fairly easy. No problem. If there is a one, there must be others. .They have so little

I always post this poem down at the bottom of my posts. It is one that has become so near and dear to my heart. I only post the most famous part of it, but, wanted to post it in its entirety today.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?

i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

Oh yeah I remember that ad for Tootsie Pops lol. Yes it is interesting to see how expensive some vintage stuff is. I am not sure what determines which are most collectable. I have been going through some stuff as well and am happy to say Craigslist works pretty good.

All of your stuff looks to be in new condition and you have enough of it to make it worth a collector coming to get it all. I have tubs of Little People from when they were wood. I may have to research what they are worth. What a fun Market Friday!

Oh yeah! That ad for the Tootsie Pop is a relic! I'm always surprised at what they deem is more valuable. Now for the most part, the Polly Pockets or more than the Barbies or I should say they were a select few Barbies that were worth a lot of money and the rest were just a few dollars more which is better than a punch in the nose.. I would love to know what determines which is the most collectible? Because I have to be honest with you. If I stack most of those things against one another, I would come out the loser in deciding what was worth the most. But just like anything else, it is demand that boost the price. I know you've been going through a lot of stuff and yes! Craigslist seems to work the best for me. I don't have to mail anything and usually the terms are amiable for a pick-up or drop-off.

I think there is a dealer who wants to make a bid on a good portion of the stuff and that's okay with me. I would rather see it go to some little girl with love it just the same but sometimes we can't be choosy thanks so much for stopping by!

#MarketFriday loves you!

Well the old guy that came for the tack was nice. Paid full price. Said he was a reseller. So he may make a few more bucks than I did, he drove for over an hour so no worries.

Oh, I have been doing Craigslist for since its inception. I am not worried about using it, pinky swear. Glad you made out so well. If it is useless to you, you might as well clear space!

That was awesome!

Well here is my link. I ALMOST forgot to drop the link! OMG I cannot believe that lol.

@dswigle & @old-guy-photos,

I ... AM ... RICH!!!

My daughter has a billion Barbie's, so many that they have to be stored in those giant plastic bags normally used for raking leaves. As she's now in college, I'm sure she wouldn't miss, say ... a thousand of them. Indeed, she probably wouldn't even notice.

If I were a good Dad, I'd ask her if I could pawn them off but I'm afraid I taught her too well: She'd undoubtedly insist on a 50/50 split.

When she was young, Katie used to make me play Barbie with her. Hour after hour after hour of Barbie. I wanted to play chess ... or poker. It could become incredibly taxing. So, I came up with an escape mechanism: Sabotage.

Katie would, of course, always assume the role of a beautiful princess or debutante while I assumed the role of her male suitor. Inevitably, a romance would develop and, typical of girls, no romance is complete without deep and unending conversations about ... relationships.

Anyway, my male character would start screwing things up. While the girl character was plumbing the depths of her soul, my guy character would suddenly sneeze right in her face. Other times, he'd fart and then recollect how he'd had baked beans for breakfast. Once, we were confronted by a group of pirates ... and I traded her for a pound of salt pork and a bag of flour.

Sooner or later, Katie would become so appalled by said deplorable state of romance that she would ask, "Daddy, would you like to play chess?"

She's become a very good chess player.

Thankfully, she inherited my offbeat sense of humor and now loves recounting these stories. Indeed, it's become one of her favorite genres, "Her Father's Torments."

Quill

You dont say, lol. I had much the same experience with my daughter. Hmm I didnt think of sabotage. However, I did think of something and let's just say that was Ben's (to steal your words Quill) raison d’etre. At the time a live in playmate seemed like the perfect answer. I guess in the long run, the laugh is on me. He did free up some time for me here and there, but I have had to feed him for 18 years now. Alas I think I found a better idea. Perhaps I should have gotten a playmate that also liked to play dolls! ;)

Yahoooooo! I think I am faster than @hangin now. Hahaha! 😂

Here's my link:

Hmmm, I don't think I have barbie dolls growing up. Am I really a girl?!? Lol. 🤣😂 I really don't remember having one. I have stuffed toys and a little kitchen and all the cookwares, but I don't have barbie dolls. I wonder why? Hmmm..

Have a beautiful weekend ahead, Denise. 😊

Lol...your getting to cheeky now...well done only just 🤣 👍 🤣

Hahaha! 😂 Glad I made you laugh. Take care my friend. 😉

Haha...i didn't know you were still challenging me but i am still a gentlemen and it's ladies first 🌝 👍 😀

Anyways love your sense of humor 👍

Well, whenever I do a #MarketFriday post I remember you. But the challenge is over now. I just love tagging you along. And perhaps make @dswigle laugh at us, too. 🤣😂

Ahhhhh....we got to have some fun here to can't be all serious...lol 🤣

Alright! 😂🤣 Let's make this a fun world to live in. 🤣

Ahhhh...way not that's what life is about 🤣

Oh, Denise got a great laugh at your pseudo competitive nature!!

You are both Pussycats! LOL

Hahaha! See @hangin?! @dswigle had a great laugh! It's worth the "bickering." 😂😂

Lol. Haha! You both are too funny!

🤣 🤣 🤣

Barbie is one of those things that you either have a hundred up or none. It just depends on the parents and what they prefer. You could get a lot of miles out of a little kitchen and the cookware and I can remember loving mine to death, but I remember one of my neighbor friends and I would play Barbie for hours and hours and hours.

And of course it has a lot to do when you were born and where you are born which toys are in your toy box. Thank you so much for stopping by and saying hello and dropping your link! It's always good to see you! I hope you have a most wonderful day!

#MarketFriday loves you!

!tip.20

Yes, I guess it depends on the parents and the kid herself. I don't remember asking them to buy one for me, so I guess I don't like it afterall. Hahaha! 😂

Thanks a lot for maintaining this fun #MarketFriday challenge. 😊 I love being here and be able to share what we got. 😊😊

Thank you! It is actually very fun for me and I do know that it takes work to do one, so there are no expectations when there is no time. People get busy, but, I do enjoy having you all here and you and @hangin are too much fun!!!!

:)

Oh yes, I feel that I do not make an effort if my post is short, and that holds me from participating. 😢

Hahaha! Thank you for appreciating us. 😊 It's fun to have friends in the community.

@gingabida

Never worry if you have a short post! I enjoy the banter as well as the post! Don't make it stressful! This is out fun times! :)

OK. I will keep that in mind, Denise. 😉

Ah Denise you have stirred many memories for me today. My daughter had the polypockets and the barbie collections and beyond those the Bratz dolls collections - so many outfits so many hours of quietly playing in her make believe world - one day she will decide to sell them online no doubt but that time isn’t quite reached yet so they sit in silent waiting .... in boxes carefully stored with the same loving care they were played with!
Thanks for this post of memories and the flowers love and poetic flavour that are what make coming to your blog always such a delight. Lots of love to you sweet lady 🤗❤️

Oh the memories for me too! I think that Polly Pocket what's the biggest surprise for me because it was a little do-nothing toy and I liked it because it was small and portable and could come along without much fuss. But the fact that some of them are so expensive on the resale Market really just surprised me. I think I pulled out eight of them and found several of them were worth hundreds of dollars. Did you hear me? Hundreds of dollars. Who knew?

Oh yes the Bratz dolls! Isn't it funny how they're not ready to part with things because perhaps they will use them for children of their own and I found that by the time that time came, most kids wanted new things for their kids. Not me but a lot of people did!

Such wonderful memories today. Thank you so much and thank you for stopping by and saying hello and leaving those beautiful words behind!

We used them ball bearing wheels you find in truck gearboxes.

Thanks my friend and you have a great weekend 👍

what a cool selection of toys, I didn't know Barbie Dolls are older than me even if only just LOL funnily enough that makes me feel young :)
good luck with finding out the value of the ones you want to seel

The brain Teaser got me this week I racked my brains but couldn't work it out

I will be back in a couple of hours to share my Market Friday Post :)

Hahaha! Yes! Barbie is older than you! :) There are some things that are, you know!

The internet is a great tool, but, also it is a place where one may want to pull the hair from their head! There is such a wide gap between the price of some things. I actually don't care that much because I was going to donate most of it anyway. There is a childrens home not too far from my area. They can either keep it or sell it and buy newer toys, it will be their choice.

The brain teaser got me too. I couldn't for the life of me get it either.

Thanks as always for stopping by and leaving your always kind words behind!

#MarketFriday loves you!

Hey I am not that old there are many things older than me LOL
Ohh yeah finding the value of things can be such a pain for sure, donating it is less stress and doing a good thing I would do the same most likely

Always a pleasure t visit your posts :)

Have a great weekend

Hehe. Name one. And it can't be Barbie. :)

Donating is so much less stressful than going through the hassle! You have a great weekend too!

The Bible LOL thats one, the wheel, theres another LOL
Donating is what we plan to do as we start clearing out stuff here :)
