Fasting & Actifit

I’ve been fasting with only a single meal for the last three days. Today, I continued this fasting pattern, but included a slow 10 km run. It went well and felt like any usual run. The fasting was a spur of the moment decision from an article I read. I’d decided it was a good opportunity to try while the children were away on their farm trip. My daughters are back now, but I’ve been so happy with my overall resolve, and enjoying some of the good habits fasting has brought.

Originally, I’d planned for a longer than 24-hour fasting period, but my husband was against this. The one meal a day was a good compromise, because he agreed there was merit in short periods of fasting. Days later, he’s also conceded it’s given me more discipline. So far it has not adversely impacted my work, and with today’s run, I think it should be good as long as I don’t push too hard. I just keep myself busier, sleep better, and I don’t have that afternoon slump anymore. Please note, it’s not a recommendation, and people must do their own research and consult their health professional as needed.

Tomorrow’s my last day, but I might extend this fasting longer, because despite my whining, I’ve enjoyed the experience. It’s been nice not to have food as an excuse to distract and being more productive as a result. I don’t put any dietary restrictions on myself come dinner. However, I’ve craved for more healthy foods; junk food and sweets isn’t something I’ve missed. The simplicity of the schedule has been the greatest appeal. It’s freed up a lot of mental energy during my day.

I should quickly thank @dbooster for his support, and generosity in sharing his own experience with fasting that’s he’s done as part of his buddhist training. Lots of wise words to counter my whining. I think he said I had monkey brains that kept screaming I needed sugar. Lol. He’s right too, it does get easier. I’ve walked past many yummy food stalls the last couple of days and have survived.
:)

Later, we went on a family trip to a Tulip festival. The photo is from the event. Exhausted, but it was a great day.

Here are the girls:

Here is an interesting sculpture we found with an environmental message. It’s an Orca filled with rubbish:

I didn’t get a chance to comment when I saw this post. Did you end the fasting or decided to extend? My hubby and a friend decided to fast once. They called it quits after 1 and half day, devoured pizza AND then got sick, of course.

That looks like a beautiful family day at the tulip festival. You’re heading into spring while we are starting the chilly sweater days of fall.

Poor orca. We were on date night couple days ago and asked for straws for our teas. He had to go looking for some because the restaurant was being more socially concious due to a dolphin incident here. Not sure what incident it is but I felt guilty. Apparently not guily enough to NOT use the straw. I’m so bad :(

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this one. I was too tired to explain previously. I am back on my one-meal-a-day/24 hour fasting. I took Mon-Tues off, and no, I did not gorge on food. I just had a healthy breakfast of cereal and then a guilt-free dinner which was just a lot of veg anyway. I’d decided that after 5 days, I couldn’t survive Monday-itis. Lol. So the plan is to fast this Wed-Fri and then to do 2 meals on the other days. Basically, I’m skipping Lunch and snacks on non-fast days. Overall, I’m still happy with my progress. I’ll keep doing it on and off until I tire of it. Right now, it’s a great reinforcement of willpower.

And yes! Finally, the good weather is slowly rolling into Australia!!

Anyway, don’t feel bad. We can only do our best and sometimes we just need that one little thing...

Good on ya Linny

Fasting does give you health benefit according to the Moslems, otherwise I dont think millions of them would do it.

Then theres intermittent fasting too, and they also believe its healthy

🤗

Lovely to see you drop by, fairy! :)

Yes, I agree there are health benefits as long as one approach it carefully. I was a little impulsive and overly ambitious initially, so I was fine with my husband keeping me in check. I plan to continue to read more on it. I just wanted something to give the system a gentle kick. I was feeling sluggish the last few weeks.

Dear @linnyplant!
Fasting and exercises are the best way to maintain physical appearance. There are some ways we can avoid obesity such as avoiding junk food. Take a couple of kilometer walk everyday. Take a balanced diet. These are things that keep the body shape fit. I am glad that you consult your family doctor in this subject. Your family photo is very beautiful.

Hello certain, lovely to meet you and thank you for your kind words. I didn’t consult a doctor, I’m reasonably healthy and it was just a case of not going to crazy with this initial experiment. But people should definitely ensure they make an informed decision. It’s been a positive experience for me so far. :)

Thanks @linnyplant for your reply.

Beware sugar loving monkeys. 🧐

Glad to hear the run went well and that you are already finding benefits from the fast.

Thanks, Dave. Hope your week’s going well. :)

Wow ! Wonderfully beautiful place!

Thanks again, Pedro! Now...why do you write English here and not on your post! Never mind, I am just lazy and can easily google translate. :)

Actually, I'm not very good at English. In Portuguese, I believe I can give a poetic touch to what I write :)

Oh, it just occurred to me as I read through some of the haiku entries for @dbooster’s contest found here:
https://steemit.com/haiku/@dbooster/haiku-contest-6-old-friends-take-2

So what’s the chances you can showcase your poetic Portuguese words in a Haiku (3 lines, one breath for the theme Old Friends)? There’s still time, over half a day at least... A challenge if you wish to accept! There’s even a Spanish entry. ;)

Very cool! I think I ate fly and missed the deadline. But I'm already following, keeping an eye on other opportunities. Thanks for the tip !
