Connecting with Nature {Trail Running & More}

in #actifit5 years ago

Hey guys! Another busy week is just about complete, but luckily it hasn't been so busy that I haven't gotten to enjoy some time outside. The flowers are blooming, and the sun has been shining more often than not! We even have some cute little baby birds that have hatched in the nest outside of the garage. Always so many fun things going on this time of year.

I made it down to the trail after class today for an afternoon run in the sun. After taking Tuesday off to go to the chiropractor it was time to get back to my half marathon training today. Since it was pretty toasty (almost 80 degrees Fahrenheit!), I kept it to an easy 6 miles. I have 9 on tap for a long run this week, but I decided to wait until the weekend when I can get out earlier. My run almost got cut short after getting the 💩 scared out of me by a snake on the side of the trail. I really don't like snakes, haha.

At least I had another delicious smoothie waiting for me at the end! I've been putting lots of yummy fresh herbs like mint and lemon balm from the garden in my smoothies to add nutrition and use up the massive amounts we have growing. I'm actually really excited to learn some more ways to use them as I'm studying a bit more about herbal medicine for continuing education credits for my nutrition certification.

Always great to continue to learn new things! I love reading all of the natural medicine posts on here, so it will be nice to explore that arena more on my own. 😀

Hope everyone has a great weekend coming up! Wishing you some nice weather to get out and enjoy your own natural environment!

Lovely to hear you're getting out in some wonderful spring weather!
Spring is being ral slow coming here but I still get out and enjoy any little bits of it that I can.
Beautiful flower picture!

Excellent that you get extra credits towards your nutrition certificate for studying up on herbal medicine - Bonus!

That was our one tulip that we had pop up this year! I guess if we only get one, we might as well get a gorgeous one! The pollen is still pretty darn heavy, but the weather has been too stunning to stay indoors. I am so happy I get to use that course to qualify for my continuing ed and learn some new fun things!

What Nutrition certification do you have? My bachelors degree is in Nutrition. I'm always on the lookout for good classes to keep uptodate on the latest science.
Your smoothie looks super yummy and healthy! I can tell you take very good care of yourself - your skin looks so youthful!

Oh that's awesome @nizzlehead! If I could go back in time I would definitely have majored in or at least taken some nutrition courses when I was in college. Since I didn't have the time or resources to devote to going back for another degree, I opted to do the Nutrition and Wellness Consultant course from AFPA. The big things that drew me to that particular certification was the emphasis on plant-based nutrition and the actual counseling aspect of working with people to better their nutritional choices. My degree is in Psychology, so there were a lot of things that related back to that aspect of my background. I have plans to do the Holistic Nutrition certification, as well, but I had to put that one off until I have more time to devote to it, as well. They are all self-paced, though, so it is nice if you have a busy routine.

And thank you for the compliment! Spring agrees with me, so my skin definitely looks much more refreshed than it tends to in the winter. I am back on a daily green smoothie kick, as well, which I think also helps get in that extra dose of hydration and lots of nutrients to feed my cells. :)

Mint in smoothie is a good idea. I just had the first harvest of this season few days ago and made fresh mint tea :)

IMG_4213.jpg

You can't go wrong with mint in just about anything, right? Love it in tea, as well. We're trying to use up the last of the mint and lemon balm that I dried at the end of the season last year, so I tend to have that most often as tea. I'm sure I'll have plenty more to dry for the winter again this season!

The flower is so beautiful, I love the colour!
Good luck with your training and take care!

Thank you! I thought it was too lovely no snap a picture of it before it fades away until next year. :)

Good choice you made! Lovely!

Does not matter how unfitted you are, just gently start running....

Haha, too funny, but very true in the quote. ;)

Beautiful pictures, including you holding the smoothie! I'm not so sure about the smoothie though, looks kind of scary to me. What else does it have in it? I used to be on a smoothie kick a couple of years ago. I still have this chart on the inside of my cabinet door right next to my Ninja.

Haha, it was pretty vibrant but didn't taste anywhere near as scary as it looked! I think that one had lots of mint and kale for that green color, fresh ginger, flax, apple, banana, and pineapple core. At least I didn't use any berries to make it a dirty brown, haha!

glad to hear your getting some nice warm spring weather and a good run in :)

Definitely warmer here than your neck of the woods, right? I hope all the snow is finally done up there!

I wont tempt fate by answering the second part of your comment, but it is slowly warming up in the 60s for most of this coming week according tot he forecast

i can't believe you have already flowers blooming there. Such a beautiful tulip wow! 🌷

We have nothing here except rain!

Aww, hopefully soon! I won't rub it in that we're probably going strawberry picking this week then...😜

You got to be kidding me! How is that possible???

Haha, well it hit 80 degrees Fahrenheit a few times already. The place we usually go is even further south, as well. They were even doing pick 2 gallons, get one free yesterday because they apparently have so many berries! I wish I could have made it for that!

Unbelievable! Well, I hope you pick a lot and post on FAVM, so I can live vicariously, lol.

PS: By the way Katie, can you check this post? https://steemit.com/communities/@paulag/creating-a-directory-of-steem-communities-submit-your-community-for-listing-today

Erika suggested we should register, but I don't know if the Vegans of Steemit already are. Or if we should also register FAVM.

Just saw that. I'll have to check in with Eve to see if she has submitted VOS yet. Hoping we have internet back at home after an outage earlier today. I popped into the gym to use the internet here for a bit, but it is too pretty out to stay inside any longer! :)
