Swelter
when lightning creates cracks across the sky
and the moist heat sits on my chest
like the Earth itself
and it shall not be moved
and the sheets plaster themselves to my skin
trapping me in their damp embrace
and each breath is snatched before i can breathe it
leaving me panting and praying for easement
of this torture upon my soul
