Steem is on my mind

Dear reader - Steem has been renamed to Hive since May 2020. My content therefore has moved with me to Hive, and I hope to see you there: peakd.com/@soyrosa.

Sort:

Hmmmm. There's much food for thought there @soyrosa. I like your idea of unvoting the witnesses and starting afresh. I think I'm probably guilty of not unvoting some that are no longer active so that would take care of that too.

I read some stuff about the proposed changes, for the first time today, and it didn't sound very good to me. I actually started to feel nervous about my stake for the first time.

It doesn't sound good for blogging and I don't know what the changes will mean for Steem in general.

I look forward to hearing your assessment when you've had time to ponder.

In the meantime have a wonderful break! 😍

I'm very sorry to hear you felt nervous for the first time @gillianpearce - although I understand I don't think it's necessary. Things were 50/50 before, then temporarily 75/25 and now they go back :-) Many big(ger) changes have happened in the past and Steem just goes on and on and on. Not to say it won't take some getting used to - I'm just saying often the fear of change is bigger than the impact itself.

I'll try to do more research and write a post about it :-) If I dare... It's a loaded subject ;-)

I'll try to do more research and write a post about it

I'll look out for it @soyrosa. 😁

Are you back from your break now? That went quickly! 😱 😂

Haha - the 'break' was a messy one, but having no 'rules' for myself regarding what content and how many times I needed to post it really freed me :D It's all about creating head space and taking some literal distance by traveling as well :D

Sounds good. It's always worth noticing the 'rules' we create for ourselves. I'm often surprised how I've set things up without realising it, creating rules for myself that are not at all necessary.

I have a similar thing going on with Steem Monsters and am in the process of taking the time to check out the real situation with regard to that. Already I'm surprised by how much I've spent but also by how much I've made (if I were to sell my cards right now). 😁

However, the strategy I've been using isn't the best with the changes that have been made recently so I'm working out I want to do from here.

And I have a yearning to go travelling as well. 😍

Interesting post to read @soyrosa. I value what you have to say, as one of the ... uhhh ... more "experienced" people with whom I have interacted over my first year "in here." 😉

"This taking a break from Steem is harder than I thought."

I have progressively reached my own place of more or less greater peace about the "balance" of how I chose to invest my time "in here" vs. "out there." A relative statement from where I am today vs. where I was starting on my "journey" on the Steem blockchain a year ago.

Won't say more for now, but looking forward to what you have to say, upon your return from your quiet time and reflection.

Ah well I jumped the gun so to speak, although I did very nearly burn my roast of Yemen Mocha Matari coffee (It's £30 a kilo so that would have been an expensive roast to ruin!) when I saw I had been unvoted by @soyrosa - then I checked and saw you had unvoted all Witnesses and felt much better. Does that make me bad though? I took comfort in not being the only one.

I think many people are getting a little frazzled with Steem right now, I know @robertandrew started feeling he just needed to take a break from the constant demands of creating content and replying to posts.

It is really important people constantly assess and reposition Witness votes to suit their own requirements and needs - although I feel the situation of voting is a bit of a lost cause when you see @utopian-io still at position 32 even though very publicly stating they were no longer running a Witness some 45 days ago. Indeed the top 100 is littered with long deactivated Witnesses still holding rank - often because significant Steem Power holders have not taken enough interest to see they are inactive and unvoted them. It's not a very good advertisement to the masses to vote Witnesses when some of Steems biggest holders are entirely disinterested.

OMG - as a coffee lover I would never have forgiven myself if my unvote ruined your amazing coffee! Damnit.

I understand you felt better seeing you were one of many and I didn’t suddenly start to dislike you - you’re one of the most uplifting people on this platform @c0ff33a <3 Could never hurt you, except next time we’re playing a SteemMonsters match :P

Yes, the fact Utopian is still a high-ranking witness is proof we need something like a decaying vote - or even an automatic unvote after being inactive for more than x amount of weeks... Not a crazy thought I’d say?

Now go take care of you and those coffee beans!

Hey hidden84 here. I exactly know that feeling - something which usually happens to me right before the burnout. Travel is great option and I hope you will create more awesome content soon. Cheers!

<3 Thanks for your lovely comment @hidden84! The traveling was a really good thing for me - it made me gain some perspective on how I should relate to/with/on Steem.

Reviewing my witnesses is on the cards, although I think if I unvoted all of them, I'd probably just end up revoting for mostly the same ones.

Good to have a clear out to shake things up though!

Yes, I will re-vote many of them, but the psychology is different: to unvote one to vote another in I find hard, but to start from scratch and really say YES to a witness (again) is... cleaner and cleared. At least in my head. Good luck on reviewing yourself!

I really must must do it! You are right! (Easy ish post too!)

LOL! CONTENT! The ways we find things to write about :D But yes, writing about why we're voting for witnesses can really add to the awareness there's such a thing as voting for or reviewing votes...

It will be interesting to see if freedom makes any changes in their witness lineup as we discover who is sitting on which side of the fence.

I'm seeing plenty of emotionally charged reactions that seem to be more personal in nature than people would care to admit.

Nothing wrong with a clean slate or an open mind and willingness to evolve.
Enjoy your respite in Slovakia..

Freedom seems to shuffle votes every few months or so, leaving ripples throughout the system... I’ve seen witnesses closing down the day after they lost the Freedom vote :’)

Yes, there’s a lot of emotion going on and I feel it as well, which is why I’m trying to take some distance. Maybe I should’ve waited with the unvoting as well but somehow it felt like another way to create that distance and room for re-evaluating :-) Now I have to do homework before casting another vote :D

I love your posts about the state of Steem and future of Steem because you are educated, informed and ask all the best questions. I feel more informed when I read your posts. So thank you!

Now for the most important business....

Enjoy your holiday and all of the explorations ahead! 🤗

Despite the late reply... I love that comment @dfinney! Glad you like those posts of mine. Sometimes I wonder if Steem is too much of an echo chamber and if I bring something valuable while writing about Steem, but if at least one person didn't read about 'that thing' before my post I guess it has its purpose.

Anyway - THANKS! The Holidays are/were awesome :-)

Enjoy your travels Rosa 🙂 something you said struck home to me.

I am a content maker first and foremost. I NEED to create content. It’s in my blood.

This resonated with me as I've made some important decisions over the last few days, arrived at from long months of contemplation. I'm not sure I will be taking a full-on break from steem, but I'm only going to be posting shorter content and keeping the networking (steem discord-ing 😉) to a bare minimum. What I've realised is that if I don't just get on with writing the first of a trilogy of fantasy novels I've had planned for years now, I will regret it. Steem takes so much time and focus. Especially being so emotionally invested, as I feel the same way as you describe with steem being the first place that I made money from my writing. But, it's time to get serious! Steem ain't paying the bills and I've only got so much energy and focus due to these health issues. I've decided that I need to give myself a real chance to succeed in my goal to become a novelist.

I've read all about the proposed economic changes (I actually wrote a post about it), and I think it's possible they could be a good thing, maybe if the curation guilds can offer competitive ROI for delegation then it could kill bidbots and return steem to a place that rewards quality, rather than simply rewarding position. I really do think steem needs to be more of a combination of the two to become a global success. The reason being that to create the virtuous cycle we need, all of that SP locked up in delegation to vote buying services needs to be put to work curating honestly. My opinion may seem somewhat extreme to sone on here, but I see the whole vote buying system as crooked... pure and simple.

Anyway, lol no more steem talk from me 😉 How are you? I hope you're well 🙂

Thank you so much for participating in the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!

Hey Soyrosa,

Enjoy your trip to the country. I admit I had an emotional reaction, but I agree not at the specific witnesses, but how this is all coming together.

The entire reason to hold steem power is to have influence even if it is a small influence.

I'm glad to hear you take that seriously. So do I.

It is an emotional process and HF’s influences our favourite digital environment in a huge way. The last one felt rushed. I really want to see some argumented posts this time about why this HF is good and for which stakeholders (category) and why we need them to feel/act better. Oh, and maybe some testing beforehand?

Anyway, the other frustrating part is that there seem to be closed spaces where people are talking about this and between the lines I understand if you add up the discussions taking place in those rooms the ‘consensus’ seems to be PRO this HF... so there’s a consensus on an HF that’s not even officially proposed yet?

Frustrating. Anyway. The good thing is we (still) care ;-) Hold the fort while I’m trying to gain some distance from Steem - lol.
