Curate your comments, here.... have a brick

in #steemit6 years ago
This might sound like I'm teaching you a bad thing. As if I'm telling you some sort of evil mind trick to maximize your blogging efforts, and maybe that's not too far from the truth. But, I think I would hesitate it to really label it under "evil" because the intention is not bad per say, and it's surely a win/win scenario.

I've beaten the horse to death so much, I will attempt to leave it alone as much as possible. But, I could not possibly continue the current idea I'm trying to convey without one tiny little kick on the solar plex. This platform (Steemit) is not a content driven platform, at least not yet. You could say, that was the original idea, you could say it should be, you could say we oughta make it so. Yes, I'm with you, I want it, let's do it. - That was like 20 kicks to the horse, lets stop now.

You know however what this platform can currently excel in? - Interaction. Yes, we don't need to be trending to maximize our interactions with other people and develop those valuable relationships.

I'm only sharing this because I see plenty of pretty decent authors, pretty decent content creators (meaning the quality of their posts), although that description is subjective. These authors type away, video away, upload music away (that's not how you say it, but muh flow) and get little interaction on their posts. I can't help but to wonder why this is the case.

What if..

They are terrible comment curators too. What if when someone bumps into their publications, they don't capitalize in that very moment. They don't respond to the questions, to the concerns, or if they do, they shit-comment/respond. Yes, there, I just said it. Authors, good authors can be shit-commentators too.

Of course my observations might be anecdotal, so they can't be taken as some sort of general truth. However, if you read this, and you felt like I was talking about you... I was talking about you. But, know that I'm just doing this because I actually care.

I use all my vp... all of it, to curate my comment section. Hence the reason why its dusted all the time, because of my "strategy" - I don't want to be having these conversations with myself. What for? I never listen to me anyways. So I need to circle the wagons, and put some interactive bait for other brains to partake of.

Evil? - Not really... but 100% intentional...

Very good point, well made and well written!

Thank you for the timely reminder! I try and interact and upvote those who comment on my posts. But sometimes, I am just disappointed!

I see users go off and post some rubbish and then pay a bid bot and then upvote themselves and then complain about how they don't make any money... And all I am thinking is... Just tell me what you think in response to what I say and I will give you an upvote that will be a far greater return on investment of your time, than ALL that rubbish they have learnt from some bid bot owner.

But hey, as they say, you can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Sorry for kicking the horse again 😉

@kabir88
Steem on

Poor little horse... but of course, you are right...

People buying themselves big trophies is a bit funny.

Sadly most of those who abuse the bots don't do math, and have no idea they are losing money at it. But hey, that's more horse kicking.

I have noticed that the people who don't upvote comments generally don't get very many of them unless they are heavily using bots and making it to the trending page.

Yes, I've noticed that too... but those who worry about "wasting" their VP on curating their comments are missing out on the real way of creating wealth.

I can possibly assign 1 full SBD per day... I spread it out to everyone I interact with. I get a lot more than that back and I don't even have to do math, its organic... It's how the branium works... I'm acknowledging someone else, appreciating their input... even if I disagree!

You are a community man, that's why you understand this.

You are very correct,man .

Obviously you need some more VP, let me help you with that.

I'm curious if it would make sense to integrate this with @noisy's new thing. Maybe there are some whales out there who really want to help people curate their comment sections, and would lend out some voting power for that specific purpose.

What a great Idea poly... lately you are a bit on fire I have to say.

Well yeah 😁 Been blowing these horns for a while. Comment and curate your own blogs comments is how it is for the new arrivals. Larger stakes don't care so much, it takes time, and this ain't Proof of Time.

I've been directing people your way. I think the initiative is all kinds of ninja and I'm glad to see what it's become.

Thank you kindly!

I sometimes feel I'm leading people down the wrong path. It's possible to be a dick and shortcut, but then I'm reminded buy posts like this 👍🏾

Well now I feel cheap for commenting, thanks for that.

You are right though. People feel drawn in to comment zones where they know that they can get big upvotes on occassion and really mdo their best to leave comments that catch attention.

Meanwhile, comment zones of less influencial voters are usually left somewhat barren aside from the few actually dedicated readers.

I hear you, but honestly most of the time people are concerned about splitting pennies. Meaning that smaller accounts with 500 SP or so, or even less. Are attempting to see if they got "enough" to curate their comments.

Yes of course, if I had 100k in SP I could be more generous, but acknowledgement and interaction has value too.. And maybe on that aspect, the wallet size is irrelevant.

I agree with you personally, but a lot of people are just in it for the money. And those will always find a way swarming towards the people who follow your advise and are generous with their upvotes.

Yeah, curate your damn comments, @meno! I'll take three bricks to go, please.

i sent them bricks to yer interwebs...

This is a fantastic topic and I'm glad you tackled it. It's part of my biggest concern about STEEM, and that's engagement and sometimes the lack thereof.

I just mentioned on another Steemians comment section that I'm not out looking for upvotes for my blog directly, I'm looking for the comments on my blog so I CAN upvote them lol

Backwards thinking maybe, who knows...But I feel if someone takes the time to comment on my blog, the least I can do is not only respond but also give them an upvote.

Still learning my way around these parts...But that just makes sense to me if we truly want engaging communities here.

Exactly brother.. its a way of saying.. "Hey... I appreciate you stopping by.. i see you, thanks..."

acknowledgement goes a long way!

Hi.
How right you are
Tickets with exceptional quality and get nothing.
You have other very little worked to say nothing.
And they are full of votes.
I like to vote in person. Read everything I can and sometimes it is not easy since I use the translator and for a while to this part if I translate it, the page is hung.
So my life is copy and paste, read in my language, put it in the translator and copy and paste.
But I am happy visiting everything I can.
If the day would have more hours.
Happy Thursday friend

No?

no soy nula para los idiomas, soy mas visual

Hahahah.

I've missed this wisdom already, I have been facing with electricity issue of late, I'm struggling to have my phone charged and that's why you don't see much of my presence on your page and on steemit per say, but I'm saving up money and I've started powering down to get a laptop in order to save the situation, that is the only way out for me now so that I won't turn a total stranger here... Lol

If you see a community man, he will value interaction, and that's is who you are. I've missed you man... Smile

Oh man... If you can, that is, if you can.. wait a little until steem goes up, you would be selling it for pennies on the dollar.

I will wait, just want to have it in the wallet and keep watching the market, probably it goes up any time soon...

Thanks

Neighbourhood horses as soon as @meno starts typing

hahahhahaha
