If Cute Could Kill
I would be splayed out
on a classroom floor
other hands on my heart
than mine
my life a shooting star
bathing the Kindergarten
stage in joyful light
I would be smiling,
tear-stained, delighted
my last breath was laughter
my last sight my child
her voice loud and proud
my five-year-old a turtle
out of her shell.
